Buying Turf From Us: The Plain-English Version
These are the terms that apply when you buy turf from Turf North East. We've kept them short and written them the way we'd explain them over the garden wall. Please read them before you pay: ticking the box on the order page and paying means you accept them.
Placing an order
To order, you pick your quantity, delivery or collection and a date on our order page, add your details and any parking or access notes, tick the box to confirm you've read these terms, then pay on the secure payment page. Your order is confirmed, and a contract formed between us, when your payment goes through. We then email you an order confirmation.
We only deliver on dates the checkout makes available, and collections run Monday to Friday. Order by 2pm the working day before your delivery or collection at the latest, but please order as far in advance as you can to avoid disappointment.
Please check your quantity, postcode, address and date before you pay. We prepare your order from the details you give us, so it's important they're right.
Prices and delivery charges
Turf is priced per roll, and each roll covers approximately 1 m². The price per roll depends on the quantity band your order falls into, as shown on our price list at the time you order. Delivery is priced by postcode. Before you pay, our order page shows you one delivered figure for the turf and the delivery together, and that is the amount you pay. If you choose collection, you pay for the turf only. The price shown before you pay is the full price.
Turf is a natural product. Roll sizes are approximate and may vary slightly from roll to roll, and colour and texture can vary with the season and the weather.
Your order is booked the moment you pay
As soon as you place and pay for your order, it's confirmed and committed. From that moment we book your turf with the grower for your day, set aside your delivery or collection day (that's the day, not a set time), and plan the round around it, so we may turn other orders away for that day. That's why orders are final once placed.
If something changes
Turf is perishable and cut to order for your day, so orders are final once placed and the 14-day cancellation period for online orders doesn't apply. If something changes, contact us and we'll help where we can. There are no refunds for a change of mind. This doesn't affect your statutory rights.
Fresh turf is best laid on the day
Your turf is cut specifically for your delivery or collection day. It's perishable, so plan to lay it the day it arrives. Turf left rolled or stacked will deteriorate, and how the new lawn does depends on the ground preparation, laying, watering and aftercare it gets.
Where turf is left
We deliver to your property or the closest suitable and accessible point. We'll leave your turf in the most convenient place we reasonably can, where it's possible and safe. On occasion we may not be able to leave it exactly where you'd prefer. Rolls are left at the property: they are not carried through houses, along side passages or into back gardens.
Parking and access notes
Please add any vehicle parking or access notes when you order, such as a narrow street, a weight limit or a tight turn. You don't need to be at home. If we can't deliver because of access problems we weren't told about, we'll contact you to arrange another option, and any extra cost will be explained to you before it's charged.
Fetching your own turf
If you choose collection, you collect from our collection point near Newcastle Airport. Collections are by order only from our collection partner, and full address details with clear directions are sent with your order confirmation. Please collect on the day you booked, bring a vehicle suitable for the weight of turf you've ordered, and load it safely. Turf is cut for your booked day, so turf that isn't collected that day can't be refunded.
Counting your rolls at handover
We count every order out to the number of rolls you've paid for, each roll approximately 1 m². Please count them too, and give them a quick look over, at handover.
If you collect
Count your rolls before you leave the collection point. Once you drive away, the order is taken as complete and correct.
If we deliver
Count your rolls as soon as they've been left, and before you start laying. You don't need to be in: we leave them at your property or the closest suitable point. If anything doesn't look right, tell us the same day, with a photo of the stack as it was left. Once turf is laid, or if we haven't heard from you by the end of the delivery day, the order is taken as delivered complete and in good condition.
Torn edges and rolls in more than one piece
Every roll is cut from the field by a harvesting machine that lifts it from the soil and rolls it up. Ragged edges, small tears and the odd roll in two or more pieces are a normal, natural part of harvesting fresh turf. They knit together once laid and watered and don't affect how your lawn grows, so they aren't treated as faulty or as damage in handling.
Once it's with you
Once your turf has been delivered to your property (or the closest suitable point) or collected, it's your responsibility: keeping it cool and damp, laying it and watering it.
Payment, weather and other matters
The full payment is taken when you order, through our card payment provider. Your full card details never reach us, and we don't store them.
If something outside our control, such as severe weather, frozen or waterlogged fields, or a vehicle breakdown, stops us cutting or delivering on your day, we'll contact you to arrange a new date.
None of this affects your statutory rights.
These terms can change. Your order is governed by whichever version was on this page on the day you paid.
