Turf Laying Terms and Conditions
These terms apply when we prepare the ground and lay a new lawn for you. They're written in plain English, section by section, so you know where you stand before you book. Your written quote and these terms together make up our agreement.
1. Your quote
We price your job from the details, measurements and photos you send us, and from a site visit if we make one. Your quote is valid for the period shown on it, or for 7 days if no period is shown.
What's included is what's listed on your quote. That's normally ground preparation, fresh turf supplied and laid, and the waste taken away, as one all-in price. Anything not listed isn't included.
If the site, access, size or ground turn out different from what we were told or could reasonably see, we'll explain what's changed and agree any change in price with you before doing the extra work.
2. Booking and paying
A deposit of £100 reserves your date, and it comes off your final bill. The balance is due on the day work begins, by bank transfer or card. Your quote shows the full price. Turf and materials stay ours until they've been paid for.
3. Cancelling
As you accept your quote online, by phone or away from our premises, the law gives you 14 days from accepting it to cancel. To cancel, tell us by email or phone.
If you'd like your work to take place within those 14 days, we'll ask you to confirm that you want it to go ahead early. If you then cancel before work begins, you'll pay for the turf, materials and costs already committed for your job that we can't recover. Once work has begun on site, your turf and materials have been supplied and the team is booked for your job, so the full price is due.
The standard cancellation wording is: "To Turf North East, Newcastle upon Tyne, info@turfnortheast.co.uk: I/We give notice that I/We cancel my/our contract for the following service: [service], accepted on [date]. Name, address, date."
4. After the 14 days, and changes of plan
If you need to move your date, your deposit moves with it; if you cancel, it's kept to cover our costs. Turf ordered or cut for your job is paid for. We'll always try to find a new date that suits you.
5. Dates, weather and access
We book dates in good faith. Weather, ground conditions, supply or an earlier job running over can move them. If that happens, we'll keep you informed and rebook the nearest suitable date. A job may not start first thing in the morning, and it may run over more than one day.
Please give us safe, clear access, somewhere to park and unload nearby, and a water supply.
6. Before we arrive
Please clear the area of furniture, toys and anything else in the way, and keep pets inside while we work.
Tell us about, and mark, any underground pipes, cables, drains, irrigation or anything similar. We can't be responsible for damage to anything we weren't told about and couldn't reasonably see.
Work done by you or by anyone else, such as groundworks or drainage, is the responsibility of whoever did it.
7. The turf
Turf is a natural, living product. Its colour and texture vary with the season and from roll to roll. If a variety is unavailable, we may use a comparable alternative of similar quality.
8. Looking after your new lawn
New turf needs thorough, regular watering and care once it's laid, and we'll give you aftercare guidance to follow.
How a lawn establishes depends on watering, weather, soil and use, which are outside our control once it's down. So we don't guarantee that it will take, and we don't give a time-based guarantee. What we do promise is to lay every lawn with reasonable care and skill. If anything doesn't look right, tell us as soon as you can, with photos, and we'll do what we reasonably can to help.
9. Photos
We may take photos and videos of the garden before and after, for our records and our marketing. We focus on the lawn, not on people or house fronts. If you'd rather we didn't use them for marketing, just tell us before we start. We may also pop back after the job is finished to see how it's doing.
10. Our responsibility to you
We're responsible for loss you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
11. Your details, changes to these terms and the law
We use your details as explained on our privacy page.
These terms can change. The version given with your quote, or live on this page when you book, is the one that applies to your job. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
